Bruce Mau

Bruce Mau serves as Chief Design Officer of Freeman, and is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Massive Change Network (MCN), a global design consultancy based in the Chicago area.

The work of the Canadian-born designer, innovator, visionary and author has been dedicated to applying the power of design to transforming the world. Informed by three decades of design studio experience and collaborations with many of the world’s leading artists and architects, cultural institutions and global companies, Mau has evolved his own design thinking methodology to inspire innovative solutions to challenges in any context and on any scale.

Mau has written and/or designed more than 200 books, including the landmark architecture title, S,M,L,XL, in collaboration with Rem Koolhaas; Massive Change and Life Style, both published by Phaidon; and the celebrated series, Zone Books. Mau’s “Incomplete Manifesto for Growth,” a 43-point statement of his thinking on creativity practice, has been translated into more than 15 languages and shared widely on the Internet for nearly 20 years. Among the many distinguished honours and awards bestowed on Mau are the Cooper Hewitt Design Mind National Design Award; the Philadelphia Museum of Art Collab Award; the Global Creative Leadership Award from the Louise Blouin Foundation, and the AIGA Gold Medal for Communication Design. Mau was named the Bill and Stephanie Sick Distinguished Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Distinguished Fellow, Segal Design Institute, Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
