James Ford
Artist & Creative Director ∙ Silverstripe
Based in Wellington, James is an artist and works as Creative Director at Silverstripe. Originally from England, he moved to New Zealand in 2009 and has worked in the design industry for over 20 years. He studied at Nottingham Trent University and then Goldsmiths College, London.
As a full-service digital agency, Silverstripe focuses on creating compelling experiences online that improve peoples’ lives. In his role as Creative Director, James leads the design team, oversees projects, takes care of the Silverstripe brand and even does some actual designing sometimes. He has worked for clients such as Unite against COVID-19, Weta Workshop, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Department of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Environmental Protection Authority and many more.
As a conceptual artist, his work contemplates human needs and wants, the perils of choice, and the value of things and nothings in art and life. The search for, and generation of, meaning is also important to his practice, along with the confusion this can lead to. Ford’s output focuses on minimalist mark making, text statements, looped short films, and object assemblage. He has exhibited internationally and has works placed in many public and private collections.
