Kahlil Joseph

American filmmaker, music video director and video artist Kahlil Joseph has been described by The New Yorker as having created “intellectually and emotionally dense short films” that centre on the experience of African Americans, which explains the acclaim with which Joseph’s work has been met. Among his exhibitions and museum commissions include Young Blood: Noah Davis, Kahlil Joseph, The Underground Museum, at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle (2015); Kahlil Joseph: Double Conscience, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2016); Black Mary, a short film commissioned by Tate Modern (2017); and Kahlil Joseph: Shadow Play, at the New Museum, New York (2017). In the commercial realm, Joseph has directed short films and music videos for Kenzo, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce Knowles, Flying Lotus and Sampha.
